Dan Lejerskar and EON Reality at MIPIM in Cannes, France

Anyone that knows our Chairman Dan Lejerskar knows that he should win an award for “World Traveler of the Year”, often moving and shaking for months at a time and sleeping, well, never!

So what’s Dan been up to lately?  Our man recently made a stop in Cannes, France to share his infinite wisdom at MIPIM, the leading real estate event for property professionals that brings together the most influential players from all international property sectors – office, residential, retail, healthcare, sport, logistics and industrial.  Speaking on the upcoming opening of EON Reality’s European headquarters in Manchester, UK next week, Dan also shed some insight on the future of 3D content, its ability to support global collaboration, and how the market and 3D technology is in the midst of a revolution.

Dan speaking at MIPIM

“I used to be an aircraft simulator engineer, so we used to put pilots in $50M simulators turning one engine off and one engine on, put bad weather and asked them to land the aircraft.  That method of experiential learning or knowledge transfer is essentially what we do, whether we sell a property today using this technology or we teach kids. The only difference is when I started 23 years ago it used to cost roughly $50M to do it.  Today, I can do it on the my mobile phone in my seat.”  (Want to see his full presentation? You can check it out here!)

And of course, members of our talented EON Reality team were also there to help show off a little bit of our awesome technology.  AKI (Aspire Katara Investment) and Katara Cultural Village in Doha, Qatar, used our EON Icube Mobile system to let spectators virtually walk through the existing Katara site and also experience property development projects months and years before completion.   The complete development site included both commercial and private properties, and a large area of cultural facilities such as theaters concert halls, exhibition galleries and aims to become a world leader in its domain.  Judging from the excitement and smiles from visitors, we think it was a huge success!

EON Reality at the 2012 SENAI Knowledge Olympics in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Servico Nacional de Aprendizagem Industrial (SENAI), the second largest vocational training organization in the world, has selected EON Reality technology to assist with increasing retention and engagement levels among their students. EON Reality’s systems are currently being showcased this week, from November 12-18, 2012, at the 7th annual Knowledge Olympics in São Paulo, Brazil, the largest competition of professional education in the Americas. About 4,000 competitors, coaches, evaluators and organizers, and over 250,000 visitors are expected to attend.  The President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, and the former President, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, also attended.

The competition is sponsored by SENAI every two years and challenges students of different technical backgrounds and vocational training to perform business tasks within deadlines and international quality standards. Students are selected from different SENAI schools throughout the country to compete, with their performance acting as an assessment tool to measure the quality of education offered by SENAI. Performance results are also used to monitor technological trends and changes in job profiles that guide SENAI in updating curricula in schools.  The Knowledge Olympics is regarded as a showcase of the highest quality that reflects the caliber of professional education provided by Brazilian industry.

Two EON Icube Mobile systems are currently being featured at the event. A complete turnkey visualization and Virtual Reality system configured with 4 walls for full immersion, the EON Icube Mobile provides high quality graphics and is built on PC cluster technology to provide unsurpassed immersion when used with motion tracking and VR interactive devices. The EON Ibench Mobile, our newest table-top stereoscopic 3D display solution, is also being displayed at the event.  The system utilizes Infinite Z’s virtual-holographic 3D visualization technology, zSpace®, and is set to enable commercial and educational professionals accelerate design and development processes and improve the way people learn, teach and communicate in today’s world.

“SENAI are true innovators when it comes to education. With their high growth demand of students we feel that their approach to combine excitement of a video game with the natural interaction that you have in the simulator, to increase the retention level through the engagement and interactive aspects of the technology, is the best educational road to take. We see this approach as an effective way to rapidly address the demand at a very efficient and cost effective rate,” said Dan Lejerskar, Chairman, EON Reality.

Ken Swain is Appointed Managing Director of EON Reality Ltd. in Manchester, UK

In addition to all the recent buzz surrounding EON Reality’s recent arrival to the UK, we’re also happy to announce that Ken Swain has been appointed Managing Director for our new European headquarters!

Ken has 30+ years of global experience in interactive 3D technologies, visual communications and creative services, and will strengthen EON Reality’s position in the European market as well as provide a strategic role in development of future technologies.

Born and educated in the UK, Ken has worked on nuclear defense, medical and marine projects before moving to Australia where he worked with prominent mining and engineering companies, developing his skills in manufacturing, industrial design, research and development. He was an early adopter of 3D CAD-CAM in the 1980’s and achieved an Australian Design award and Japanese G-Mark award for his design work.

In the early 1990’s Ken set up his own design and visualization practice. During this time he became a member of the Design Institute of Australia, a certified instructor for Alias|Wavefront, a Visiting Lecturer at Curtin University of Technology and an advisor to the Australian Government for Design and Technology curriculum.

Ken returned to the UK in 1995 and was recruited by Alias|Wavefront (now Autodesk) to develop and manage their design and entertainment 3D software training and consulting services across Western Europe. In 2002 he left Alias to start Design Academy Ltd and developed a successful business offering innovative 3D solutions to industry, government and education built around Autodesk’s 3D Max, Maya and EON Reality’s interactive 3D software. Ken re-joined EON Reality Inc. in October 2011 as Business Development Director for UK before this latest appointment.

“Having worked with EON products for many years, I am looking forward to developing the new European Centre and increasing the use of interactive 3D across the region. With the increasing growth of 3D technology the time is right to build on Manchester’s reputation for innovation and creativity, by bringing together creative people, developers, integrators, education and government to change the education and industrial learning space.
