Client Spotlight: Norfolk Southern Corporation

Norfolk Southern Corporation is one of the nation’s premier transportation companies, operating approximately 20,000 route miles in 22 states and the District of Columbia, and serving every major container port in the eastern United States.  Not only do they provide efficient connections to other rail carriers, but they also operate the most extensive inter-modal network in the East and is a major transporter of coal, automotive, and industrial products.

We recently created an internal communications video for the fine folks at Norfolk Southern to help communicate the benefits of their new software solution called RailEdge – Movement Planner.  The software was designed to improve railway operations and logistics across the company’s vast railway network.

IMG_1154“The EON Reality video was actually the second video production by EON Reality related to RailEdge – Movement Planner.  In this project, Norfolk Southern had a need to develop a video piece that had two primary goals:  to be an engaging training video with animations describing the software, but at the same time provide a visual description that allows our valued employees to embrace this new technology,” said Charlie Turnipseed, Manager Dispatch Planning Systems.  “EON surpassed both goals and was such a success that we are now in engaging them on another project.”

“EON Reality is the leader in visualization solutions and simulation based technology.   We have a long list of experience at conveying complex concepts and ideas in a very unique and visual way.  The end result is that it is easy for the end user to understand,” said Frank Botdorf, Director of Business Development, EON Reality, Inc.

Dan Lejerskar and EON Reality at MIPIM in Cannes, France

Anyone that knows our Chairman Dan Lejerskar knows that he should win an award for “World Traveler of the Year”, often moving and shaking for months at a time and sleeping, well, never!

So what’s Dan been up to lately?  Our man recently made a stop in Cannes, France to share his infinite wisdom at MIPIM, the leading real estate event for property professionals that brings together the most influential players from all international property sectors – office, residential, retail, healthcare, sport, logistics and industrial.  Speaking on the upcoming opening of EON Reality’s European headquarters in Manchester, UK next week, Dan also shed some insight on the future of 3D content, its ability to support global collaboration, and how the market and 3D technology is in the midst of a revolution.

Dan speaking at MIPIM

“I used to be an aircraft simulator engineer, so we used to put pilots in $50M simulators turning one engine off and one engine on, put bad weather and asked them to land the aircraft.  That method of experiential learning or knowledge transfer is essentially what we do, whether we sell a property today using this technology or we teach kids. The only difference is when I started 23 years ago it used to cost roughly $50M to do it.  Today, I can do it on the my mobile phone in my seat.”  (Want to see his full presentation? You can check it out here!)

And of course, members of our talented EON Reality team were also there to help show off a little bit of our awesome technology.  AKI (Aspire Katara Investment) and Katara Cultural Village in Doha, Qatar, used our EON Icube Mobile system to let spectators virtually walk through the existing Katara site and also experience property development projects months and years before completion.   The complete development site included both commercial and private properties, and a large area of cultural facilities such as theaters concert halls, exhibition galleries and aims to become a world leader in its domain.  Judging from the excitement and smiles from visitors, we think it was a huge success!

And speaking of ‘next’, be sure to check us out at the official inauguration of our European headquarters in Manchester, UK!  Check out our website for more info.

EON Reality Featured in BizTech Magazine!

johansson-eon-280EON Reality was recently featured in an article by BizTech Magazine as one of three innovating businesses finding new ways to tackle old challenges.

“You have such a realistic environment that you can do it virtually and be much better prepared when you get out in the field,” Johansson explains.

Two challenges, however, make the tool out of reach for many: It’s expensive, and it requires a lot of space. “We wanted to create a solution that had at least close to that immersive experience, but that can be done in a much smaller footprint, at a lower cost and also set up in a shorter period of time,” Johansson says.
